Cooking is an art in itself. It is one of a kind. Not only your sense of sight, but also your sense of smell is pleased by this. You will definitely like the dish, if it appears good to your sight. How you cook a dish matters a lot. Different nations have contributed to the world by their special food. For instance, Fondue by switzerland, Pizza by Italy etc. Everyone likes these. Result of different flavours melting into each other is the best food. 


A Chef in the kitchen


The person who cooks professionally is very well known as chef. He is well-known for his proficiency in this field. Earlier, there was nothing glamorous about this profession. The perception about this profession changed later on. Many chefs such as Mr. James Oliver, Mr. Gordon Ramsay, Shri. Sanjeev Kapoor etc were very much responsible for bringing massive change in the field of hospitality industry and changing people's viewpoint in this. They have studied cooking. It is their hard work and skill, that has earned a lot more appreciation for them and made conspicuous place in this industry. People praise them for their talent. Now-a-days, competition in this industry is fierce too. 


The chef's uniform


The kind of restaurant it is, the type of food being prepared, cafe houses, take-aways etc decide the kind of clothing chef will have. Chef clothing include chef's jacket, a hat and his trousers. 


The chef's jacket.


White is the colour of chef's jacket. A chef can not use his own jacket in the restaurant. His employer provides him one. A chef is expected to maintain health standards. There is always a possibility that a health inspector can visit a kitchen unannounced. When his jacket is found to be white, it means that he is not cleaning his hands on it. 


Trousers of chef


He should feel comfortable with trousers provided. 

Daily work span of a chef is 8-9 hours. He is working near hot flames. These are trousers that have to face more spilling of things as compared to jackets. Hence, they should be designed in such a manner that they hide stains. There is a difference between trouser of sous chef and head chef. 


Hat used by chef.


It is the chef's hat that keeps hair from falling in the food. It helps distinguish between chef and others working in the kitchen. The head chef has the tallest hat. It is better known as torque. The other reason for allowing to use a hat is to keep the head clean by allowing air flow. 


Shoes used by chef.


Along with other things, he needs a pair of shoes. It is must for every professional chef. As mentioned earlier, a chef has to work 8-9 hours on the hard, slippery floor. Comfort and durability is the major criteria behind selecting the kind of shoes chef is going to wear.
